SESCAM Implements Infor EAM for Effective Management of Centres

May 07, 2009

Infor today announced that SESCAM (the Health Care Service of Castilla-La Mancha) has implemented Infor EAM Enterprise Edition to provide computer-based asset management of its health care centres. Infor EAM will now be used by all SESCAM-dependent centres to help conduct cost-effective, planned and preventative maintenance services and improve equipment availability and performance across 200 primary care centres, 18 hospitals and 15 specialist diagnosis and treatment centres.

Infor EAM helps asset-intensive organizations, such as SESCAM, improve performance, avoid break times and lengthen the useful lifecycle of assets, thus optimizing capital investments. In addition, the solution can be used to program preventative maintenance measures in order to anticipate problems and carry out asset monitoring and auditing on the basis of official regulations, whilst also implementing cost-saving processes during operations relating to: warranty management, workforce productivity, and the purchase of replacements and services.

The solution, based on a web-architected platform, has more than 15,000 clients worldwide in various sectors. Infor EAM is based on Infor's service-oriented architecture (Infor Open SOA) for easier integration with a host of Infor and non-Infor applications, and for greater agility to automate new business processes without disrupting the existing operation.

SESCAM's primary objective was to unify maintenance criteria and conditions. Other important factors included the transparency of historical records for analysing costs and failures, as well as the analysis of purchasing policies and control over outsourcing. The goal was to take advantage of the synergies involved in the management of all of its health care centres.

"Our initial maintenance solution required a lot of paper and phone calls as the means of providing instructions and gathering reports and was not effectively coordinated across centres. This all gave rise to delays due to lack of communication; absence of records, and an overall lack of synergy at work. In short, the idea was to equip centres with a single centralised management system that would also enable individual assessment of centres using a multi-organisational management approach," explains Francisco Caballero García, Head of the Department of Economic and Infrastructure Management, Equipment and Supplies, SESCAM.

The SESCAM project was directed by Infor EAM partner GHESA Ingeniería y Tecnología. "The Public Administration's specifications sheet was used to produce a diagnosis document. Parameterisation took about a year, with periodic meetings in each hospital. During the busiest periods of the implementation process a team of up to five people worked on the project," explains Antonio Benito de Andrés, Product Director at GHESA Ingeniería y Tecnología.

As a result of the implementation of Infor EAM, the Health Care Service of Castilla-La Mancha has been able to shorten response times, achieve greater visibility into historical records and eliminate an enormous amount of paper. In addition, the organisation has benefited from more thorough control of costs and activities as well as improved process management, due to a centralised architecture that unifies criteria and optimises costs.

According to Francisco Caballero García at SESCAM: "The greatest advantage we have obtained from this system is that each centre gets more support and has more efficient and faster solutions. On the maintenance side, all processes are unified through this program in such a way that centres that are more technically advanced serve as a guide to other centres. This generates efficient knowledge management. The outlook is very positive because this process of asset management is helping us to codify our assets and standardize maintenance best-practices."
