Delhaize plans deliveries with RedPrairie Transportation Management solution

March 30, 2009

NINOVE, Belgium – RedPrairie Corporation, a world leading consumer driven optimisation company, announced that supermarket chain Delhaize will optimize its supply chain with the scheduling and collaboration functionality of the RedPrairie Transportation Management solution. Five Delhaize distribution centres (DCs) will use the solution to manage inbound deliveries more efficiently and optimise dock usage. Approximately 1,500 suppliers will plan their deliveries using the online collaboration portal. The five DCs serve 775 points of sale in Belgium. The solution is planned to be operational by mid 2009.

Delhaize selected the RedPrairie Transportation Management module after reviewing five other vendors. RedPrairie was the preferred solution because it met all functional requirements and offered a very user-friendly interface. In addition, because the scheduling and collaboration portal is part of a complete Transportation Management suite it offers opportunities for the future.

Using the collaboration portal, suppliers will plan their deliveries themselves. Warehouse planners will monitor the plan and adapt it where necessary; suppliers will then receive an automatic notification. Delhaize will thereby manage stock levels and ensure that inbound deliveries perfectly match dock availability. At the moment planning is a manual process which results in long waiting times for trucks arriving at the DCs.

"The RedPrairie Transportation Management solution is an essential part of our new logistics infrastructure,” says Jurgen Limbourg, Supply Chain Coordinator at Delhaize. “With this solution we can easily manage the arrival of trucks. We know how long an average delivery takes and will be able to compare that against the actual time taken. This allows us to make suppliers accountable for their performance."

"Delhaize is an innovative player in the world of food distribution so we are proud that they have selected RedPrairie,” says Martin Hiscox, President & Managing Director, International, RedPrairie. “Our scheduling and collaboration solution will allow Delhaize to streamline their supply chain and help them stay ahead in the competitive grocery industry.”
