Streamlined Global Shop Customers

December 01, 2006

Two Global Shop customers spoke at the 2006 users’ conference on their experiences with Global Shop’s capabilities to streamline their business processes. Noel Sutton, System Administrator/Planner, Citadel Architectural Products, Indianapolis and Eric Miller, Miller Welding, Brookville, PA documented improved on-time delivery, labor reductions and their company’s ability to grow with Global Shop.

Citadel Architectural Products builds to stock and has a very seasonal business, mostly summer construction, for their laminated wall panels, building exteriors, elevators, and other parts. Prior to Global Shop, three product lines increased to 17 that went through the same three workcenters causing inefficiencies. After selecting Global Shop, the implementation went smoothly, thanks to strong ownership involvement, dedicated personnel and a solid plan shored up with lots of Global Shop help, Sutton said.

Global Shop’s estimating tools helped reduce process errors and inventory inaccuracies. The company found that they could sell panels without losing money and their on-time delivery improved 15%. Cycle counting accounted for easier physical inventories and discrepancies were reduced by 50%. Citadel was able to achieve a 40% reduction in labor, streamlining from 1,000 to 600 hours/week. Concurrently, the company saw a 20% increase in sales revenue. Sutton finished by stating, “Global Shop tools improved our processes across the board.”

Miller Welding & Machine Company started in the lumber/mining/steel industry in 1963 and diversified to manufacturing in 1980. Eric Miller, the third generation of the family to work in the business, stated that by 2000, the company had grown to 200 employees and was spending 45-50 hours per week entering time cards. They researched Global Shop and found that it fit their needs. How did Global Shop help them grow? Whereas they spent 40-60 hours per week running shipping labels and reports, Global Shop now accomplishes this task in 10 minutes. The integration of modules helps employees communicate efficiently. Miller Welding’s IT needs nearly disappeared. The flexibility of the software, especially CRM and Auto Work Order Generation, was another factor in their ability to grow rapidly. Consequently, they have experienced three times the sales with the same number of sales reps since 2001. Global Shop has allowed the company to focus on its customers’ needs instead of software requirements.
