Polish Naval Shipyard Gdynia S.A. further streamlines operations with IFS Applications

February 11, 2009

Naval Shipyard Gdynia S.A. handles maintenance, construction, repair, conversion and modernization of Navy vessels, commercial and fishing vessels, and technical and specialized vessels. It also constructs equipment, products and spare parts and provides special services such as docking, designing, subcontracting, forwarding, storage and testing. In May 2007, in order to streamline and support the range of its operations, the shipyard decided to implement the latest version of IFS Applications to replace its legacy systems.

Naval Shipyard Gdynia S.A. chose IFS Applications because of its strong functionality for critical business processes in project-centric industries. The system is currently used by approximately 450 users at 40 shipyards around the world, proving that IFS understands the challenges shipyards face. Gdynia S.A. also chose IFS because of its strong presence and proven ability to implement ERP systems in Poland.

The implementation process was divided into two phases. The first phase included financials, purchasing and material management, human resource management and payroll. Currently, the second phase of the implementation is taking place which largely extends the scope of the project and includes sales, manufacturing, project management, document management, and maintenance. It is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2009.

IFS Applications offers project-centric capabilities that have proven to be a good fit for shipbuilders around the globe. IFS functionality for project-driven manufacturing, earned value management, and service management allow shipbuilders to leverage lean manufacturing and financial processes and comply with government mandates. IFS’ shipbuilder customers include STX Europe (Norway, Finland, France, Romania, Vietnam, Brazil), Austal and Todd Pacific Shipyards (USA), Babcock Engineering Services and Fleet Support Ltd (UK), Ursa Shipyards and Uzmar Denizcilik (Turkey), PT PAL (Indonesia) and Stocznia Marynarki Wojennnej S.A. (Poland).
