Oracle Acquires Secerno to Bolster Data Security

Oracle is still going strong on the acquisition front. The ERP Giant will be adding Secerno to its list of recent acquisitions. Secerno is a UK-based provider of firewall solutions that protect against hackers and cyber attacks.

The Oracle-Secerno acquisition price has not been disclosed, but the transaction is set to close next month. The Secerno acquisition is part of Oracle's plan to fuel growth in specific ERP industries.

Secerno's security products control how information in databases is accessed. Their product DataWall uses a Synoptiq engine to monitor a database and block unauthorized access. Secerno's applications are compatible with Oracle and non-Oracle databases.

Oracle is using the acquisition to appease the rising demand for data protection products. Oracle plans to combine Secerno with its own database to ensure the safety and privacy of customer data.

"This combination is expected to further enable customers to reduce the cost and complexity of securing their information throughout the enterprise with a protective perimeter around Oracle and non-Oracle databases," Oracle said in a letter to their customers.

Oracle promised to honor Secerno's partner agreements during the transitional phase until the deal is complete. The acquisition will further emphasize the need for data security in enterprise software. IBM recently purchased the security firm Guardium to bolster their customer's protection as well.

Investing in data protection these days has become a must so this acquisition makes full sense to me. Should we expect further moves in this direction from the competitors? I am sure there will be some, everyone needs a reliable data center security to gain trust on the market.
